YEAR 3 RIVER WALK

Mitchell is our new class journalist for this part of our inquiry (Our Patch). This is his first news report.

River Walk 002 (Small)On the 23rd of May, Year 3s went to the Margaret River Weir.  Tracey and a few other people from the Cape to Cape Catchment Group came with them.  They took a bus to get there.  Kate said, “I’m feeling very excited – very, very excited!”

When they arrived they walked down the bush track, with a roof of trees towering over them, to the weir.

Scarlet said, “It’s a very healthy river”.  And I agree with her!  At the weir, they went with an Environmental Scientist named Drew.  He showed them the fish ladder

and talked about different threats to the river. Here’s what they came up with:
• Pollution
• Mining
• Algae/moss
• Feral animals.

After they listened to Drew, they went on another big walk down to Rotary Park through some beautiful trees to catch the bus back.  On the back-to-school trip, I asked them a few questions.  Sofia said, “The walk was fun and … Fun!”  Flynn said, “That trip was AWESOME!”  It was a worthwhile trip and they learnt a lot.
