HARMONY DAY – 21st March

Today is Harmony Day!

We will be learning about Harmony Day in Australia and why we celebrate it on 21st March.

HARMONY DAY FACTS FOR STUDENTS – this website explains what it is and how we celebrate it.

Today you will be doing a reading comprehension and writing down your answers.  (This is like Book Club, but you have to write down your answers instead of speaking them.)  🙂

Some words you may need to understand are:

HARMONY DAY – is held on 21 March in Australia to celebrate and show respect for the different cultural backgrounds of so many Australians.

CULTURE – is the ideas, customs and social behaviours of a particular group of people in a country

DIVERSITY – is the ways in which people can be different from each other.

MULTICULTURAL – people of many different nationalities and cultures.  (Australia has over people from over 120 different countries.)

FUN CRAFT ACTIVITIES:  When you are finished with your reading comprehension, choose a sheet to colour in and/or make something for Harmony Day!   Have fun!  🙂

SCHOOLS IN CHINA

In Rotating Inquiry Groups, when your group do the Chinese Schools Booklet you will need to find this link Kids from China – FactMonster.com to find the information you need.

FLAGS – You will need to google to find the colours of the Chinese flag.  Colour in your flag in your booklet.

CHINESE STRUCTURES – you will need to google to find pictures to copy one of these famous structures into your booklet.

CHINESE WORDS –  use this link to find the Chinese words you need for CHINESE FOR KIDS DICTIONARY and draw the Chinese characters for that word into your booklet.

We will be doing the VENN DIAGRAM comparing schools in China with schools in Australia together as a class later on.  Try to finish your booklet except for this middle page.  🙂
