We learnt about geography characteristics of place the other day.  Remember – natural and human features or characteristics.

Today you will be making posters about different countries which are near to Australia.

Use the website (created by another teacher below) which will take you to your video for your country and website links.
These things have to appear on your poster:

  • CAPITAL CITY
  • POPULATION
  • CLIMATE
  • LANGUAGES SPOKEN
  • CURRENCY USED (MONEY)
  • DRAW YOUR OWN FLAG
  • IMAGE OR DRAW A NATIVE CREATURE FOUND THERE (animal and/or bird- say what it is)
  • INCLUDE A MAP OF THE COUNTRY

People and Places – Different but just the same!

We have been learning about the connections people have to their place.

Reading through this book helps us to remember that people from different places might look different, have different languages and religions, might eat and dress differently, but that all people all over the world are similar. So in Geography, we need to remember that ALL PEOPLE have their own connections to their special places, just like us.

You will be learning all about Australia’s neighbouring countries today – who they are, where they are, and later you will be making a jigsaw map of Australia and its neighbouring countries.

The people in these neighbouring countries are different from us, just like the people in this story. We will be finding out more about their lives soon when we research different countries.

Try to learn and remember the names of Australia’s neighbouring countries!!(a challenge!)

Climate and Weather

This video clip is a good introduction to climate and weather.  You need to listen well to work out the difference between them.  Today we are going to learn about the different CLIMATE ZONES OF THE WORLD.  I wonder what climatic zone Margaret River is in…?   See if you can work it out.

Now we are going to work in our booklets to check what we have learned and to see what kind of climate we have in Australia.  😎

We will be using Inquisitive again so you will need to remember our join code when you click on this  link.  INQUISITIVE  There is a humorous video about the weather too.

Exploring Special Places in Western Australia

Places Near and Far!

You have been investigating landmarks in Australia and now we are going to focus on places in Western Australia!  As you read about special kinds of places in your “Let’s Explore Australia” booklet, you learned about:

  • National Parks
  • Sacred Sites
  • World Heritage Sites
  • Reefs and Rivers
  • Mountain Ranges
  • Rainforests and Wetlands

We looked at these special places all over the world, then in Australia and now we are investigating West Australian special places closer to home in the South West of Western Australia (in Our Patch)!  Use the planners and find out what you need to know – then you will be creating your own FACT SHEET using PicCollage!  Have fun!
