Maths – 3D objects

Welcome back everybody!  So lovely to see you all fresh after the Easter break. 🙂

NEWS – This term we will be starting partner newstelling.  Everybody will be telling their news every Monday and there won’t be a weekly news roster any more.  🙂

Today in Maths we are going to be investigating 3D objects – their names, their properties and their differences.

Challenge: Look around you this week and see how many of these shapes you can see in real life objects and buildings around you?

Geometry – Prisms from Nets

In Maths today we will be investigating patterns by building houses along Storey Street.  [Levels of a house are called ‘storeys’, not stories :-)]  Then we will be picturing the 3D objects made from 2Dnets.  These activities will allow us to practise picturing the 3D object from the 2D nets.

1.    MAKE THE OBJECT

2.    CHECK OUT THE PRISMS

3.    CHECK OUT THE PYRAMIDS

Now just for fun:…….  test  yourself on what view you are looking at!

1.   VIEWS 1 – pick out the piece you are looking at

2.   VIEWS 2 – another quiz

3.   GUESS THE VIEW – best quiz to end off.

Have fun working these out – it’s all in the way you look at things….. 😎

GEOMETRY GAMES

Here are some games which will help you to learn the names of the different 3D objects.  Try to work out how many faces and edges and vertices (corners) too.

3D OBJECT SONG  – this is a song which tells you about 3D shapes

SOLID OBJECT FACTORY – learn the names of 3D objects in this game

NAME THE 3D OBJECT – a fun game guessing from the faces each shape has

Then stick your names onto your 3D objects on your sheet and use texta to colour in the base of each shape (Pyramids) and the side which gives it its name (Prisms).  Then hand it in. 😎
