RECESS

The Eleventh Hour – by Graeme Base  [The book should be on the blackboard shelf below the jobs roster near my desk.]  This is a beautiful picture book and Graeme Base has included heaps of clues in each picture, so enjoy each picture.   This is a mystery and you need to be able to solve the crime and find out who stole the feast.  I will upload the PDF of the worksheet here.  If you can’t print it from the smartboard computer, then just open it on any other computer that is linked to a printer, to print it out.  [You may need to wait for me to come back tomorrow to use the code breaker decoder to decode the message using the Roman Cypher.  I have these tucked away somewhere and need to find them for you tomorrow.  Do the rest of the worksheet though.]

Horace the eleventh decides to give himself a big treat for his eleventh birthday  (click on this file to open the PDF – then print, or save into H:// drive and print from other computers…)

Finishing off any work – Inquiry Cards, Magic Show practice, Magic Show Planner, etc.  [Students with blogs can this time, if up to date, to work on their blogs.  They should be writing about one thing they have done in class this term…]

Make sure you work really hard and help your relief teacher by showing her how you do things.

Rotating Maths Groups:  Remember to bring up the smartboard rotating groups list and that you rotate every 30 mins.

DESK:  Spelling Contract – start a new contract.  Do the front page (list 8) and do your 3 look, cover, checks.  Highlight the spelling pattern too.

PURPLE GROUP – will work with Liz as per the work set (on blue table near teacher’s desk)

RECESS

INQUIRY – first working as a whole class you will each receive a Magic Show Planner.  Watching the last few magic show videos, discuss as a class what the characteristics of a magic show are and write dot points onto your planner in the T-chart.

MAGICIAN GROUPS:

  1. Liam, Jaxon, Declan

  2. Leona, Alexis, Bella

  3. Zack, Harry, Kohan, Jasper

  4. Lily F., Samara, Harvey, Tom

  5. Lulu, Ava, Roan, Matty

  6. Keale, Lily O., Isaac, Angus

THEN working in your MAGICIAN GROUPS – you will look at the website below (magic tricks for kids) and share the magic books (ask Rooms 7, T6 and T7 if they can lend you their copies of the same 101 cool magic tricks books.  You need to research and try out different magic tricks to find a selection of maximum 4 and minimum 3 magic tricks which are varied (and nobody is to have the same trick).  Work out which tricks your group will perform, then work out who will do what (will anybody need a partner or call for an assistant?).  Teacher will need to check different groups to ensure a range of good tricks: cards, ropes, coins, etc. and give advice from the available tricks.  If you have decided on your tricks and the teacher is happy with them, then you can start to write up your own trick in your planner  booklet.  LIZ to support here.

Welcome Back Everybody!

Welcome back everybody!  Term 4 is going to be a busy and fun-filled term.  We will be finishing our Myths, Magic and Mysteries Inquiry over the next two weeks, with a celebration Magic Show at the end.  We will also be completing our Big Questions and working at using rubrics to assess your own work.

The other really exciting news is that we are going to be planting out our very own kitchen garden bed today!  🙂  Mr Mcleod has bought all the plants we asked for and we will be putting them into the bed after lunch today.  We need to take on jobs to make sure we look after the bed and take regular photos to put on this and your own blogs to show the progress.

Lovely to have you all back in Room 6!  What do you think of the new furniture arrangement?  I’d like us to keep the tables as twos for the first week at least, just as a trial…. 🙂

Characteristics of a Magic Show

Watch these video clips of magic shows to identify the characteristics of a magic show.

You will need to write these as dot points on your T-chart.

Please notice the different types of tricks used too.

Then you will be working with your group to choose different magic tricks which will make a good magic show to perform for an audience.
