Marble Run Constructions

Wow!  What a busy day we’ve had constructing these marble runs!  I think we all have learnt heaps about how fast a marble can run using gravity, and about how hard it is to slow it down – even Mrs Veary learnt as we experimented!  🙂

After a little clean up have a look at how awesome these runs have turned out!  Tomorrow morning before school you can all check up on how secure your parts are, and we will time them tomorrow!  (By the way – we might just test to see which one takes the longest (don’t worry about the 30 seconds…) and that they all reach the end of the run safely without falling out.)

I saw so much co-operation! People were all taking on different parts of the job and working together. Great job, people!

Philosophy

This is our first lesson introducing Philosophy.  Today we are going to learn about the question quadrant.  First of all we’ll watch the  nursery rhyme, “Jack and Jill”. Then we’ll try to place philosophical questions about the story on the Question Quadrant!

Change and Continuity – Looking at our Skatepark!

We spent some time discussing the rubric and your recent tasks today.  Now you know what I am expecting from your assessment task.  Remember, one word dot points will only score a below expected,  so make sure you add a few details to let me understand what you are seeing.

To prepare for our Skatepark assessment task, here are some websites we will look at to try to compare the old skatepark with the new skatepark.  Remember, you will need to notice the differences – design, materials, size and anything else you can see.  It is very important that you give as much detail as you can, but think deeply and make sure you try to explain WHY certain things have changed, and WHY other things have stayed the same.

  1. OLD SKATEPARK – Margaret River Youth Precinct
  2. NEW SKATEPARK – Convic (Builders) design features of new skatepark
  3. OLD SKATEPARK – Images of old skatepark
  4. NEW SKATEPARK – Images showing different parts of the new skatepark
  5. NEW SKATEPARK VIDEO<

Write down all the CHANGES you notices, and for CONTINUITY write down all the things you noticed that are still there or have stayed the same.  Choose a few of the things to explain in the WHY? column.

ROTATING MATHS GROUPS on Wednesday 4 May – DESK ACTIVITY

DESK ACTIVITY –

You will be doing a reading activity on the Perth Bell Tower, using the same website you saw yesterday in Inquiry.  You will need an iPad and log in to Dolphinkids using the QR code on the cupboard at the door, to get to this post.

THE SWAN BELLTOWER (PERTH) – use this link to find the information you need and watch this video clip to get a better idea of what the bells are like.

[Interesting fact: In England where they have lots of old churches with big bells like this, bellringers are specially trained in how to pull the cords to ring the bells in tune.  The Swan Bells were a gift from England.]
