Rumplestiltskin

We will be comparing the two versions of the Rumplestiltskin story:

1.  The traditional fairy tale – RUMPLESTILTSKIN

2.  The Kermit news video (below)

THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE HEARD AND READ, THEN ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS.
1.What was the same in each story? 2. What was different?
3. Which Rumplestiltskin and which Queen did you like best?
4. Do you think it is right to make a promise you don’t think you can keep? Does this make the Queen or Rumplestiltskin the bad person in this story?

THE PRINCESS AND THE PEA

This week we will be reading and writing about the fairytale story: “The Princess and the Pea“.  We will be writing a newspaper article based on this fairytale. Remember that all newspaper articles are written as exciting recounts.

They must have:

  • An eyecatching headline…. (eg. Sleepless Night for Princess)

  • Write it as a news report, using Who? When? Where? What? and try to make it as interesting as you can.

  • Remember to use a special beginning sentence to “hook” your reader and make them want to read on…

  • It can be quite sensational and dramatic.

  • Include at least one quote from one of the people in the story.   (eg. The Princess said, “I just couldn’t sleep a wink last night!”)

  • It must be set out in long skinny paragraphs just as it would be in a newspaper.

Have fun with this piece of writing, everybody.  You will work with a partner to get ideas and do some planning, then it’s everybody on their own!  Mrs Veary
