Today I want to show you our planning sheet – The Narrative Story Graph.  You will see:

• sizzling start
• backfill
• pebble
• rock
• boulder
• exciting ending
• character wrap-up.

You’ve been writing tension scenes and this is usually the boulder in the story.  We are going to look at an animation, then see how it is plotted (planned) onto the Story Graph, and just what the  pebble, rock and boulder are.  They help to build the tension of the story (just like a skate ramp), leading to the exciting ending.

Today’s animation is: Mog’s Calamity Christmas!  While we watch, try to work out just which parts are the pebble, rock and boulder.

Poor Mog!  She looked so frightened.

Now, we’ll discuss it and then have a look at the Story Graph to see how it has been plotted. (see Powerpoint separately).

Next week we’ll have a go at plotting an animation called SOAR in small groups.  🙂
